Water Filter Systems and Other Facts
Water is very important in our survival. Without water for several days man would die. Yet even as you read this the destruction of Nature continues unabated. Nature includes the air we breathe, the trees we see, the animals that roam this earth as well as the water we drink. We are connected to Nature because everything in this earth is connected somewhere and somehow. Thus, when we destroy Nature we also destroy our chances of survival.
The rapid urbanization and technological advancement have left most of our natural resources depleted to the point that it can no longer be replenished. This is especially true for fresh water where we get most of our supply for drinking water.
Of the total 326 million cubic miles of water in the whole world, only 3% of that is fresh water because the rest are salt water which we cannot drink. And from that 3% about ¾ of that are still frozen in the North and South poles. The rest are surface water and ground water.
But with that limited supply of fresh water we still tend to pollute and contaminate some of our fresh water sources just because of urbanization and development. With this scenario most people employ a sort of water filter systems in their households.
These water filters makes our water potable and safe for human consumption. Water filters eliminates microorganisms and other disease causing bacteria. These microorganisms and bacteria if not removed may be fatal to humans once consumed thru the water. It can make a person sick or it may even kill a person.
That is why the popularity of under sink water filters or uv water filters continues to surge. Most people nowadays no longer trust the safety of the water coming out of their faucets.
Drinking water filters removes the impurities in water. And these can include inorganic or organic materials. Water impurities are categorized under physical impurities, chemical impurities and biological impurities.
Physical impurities include the floating substances that are carried by the water in its passage through the so-called hydrologic cycle. These substances are what makes the water cloudy and turbid.
Chemical impurities is classified under inorganic constituents which is basically the dissolved cations, dissolved anions, alkalinity, acidity, carbon dioxide, hardness, conductivity and other specific inorganic constituents. The organic constituents include the total organic carbon, total organic halogens and other specific organic constituents.
Biological impurities includes the presence of microscopic and macroscopic plant and animal life like viruses, bacteria (parasite or pathogenic), algae and fungi.
If these impurities are not removed thru water filter systems or thru water filter cartridges we may get water related diseases like diarrhea, cholera, amoebiasis, cancer, gastroenteritis, urinary infection and typhoid fever. These diseases are deadly and may cause irreparable damage and death to humans.
The physical characteristics of water include turbidity. This is the hazy appearance of water which is caused by suspended solids, dissolved solids and colloidal solids. Another physical characteristic of water is the color. This is mainly the hue generated due to the presence of suspended materials in the water. Most drinking water filters can remove turbidity in water. The biological characteristics of water include the viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa and algae.
Because of too much and very rapid urban development and industrialization our sources of water become polluted and contaminated by different sorts of impurities. If not treated well either by large scale filtration systems or under sink water filters our potable water supply might be endangered in the coming years.
It is therefore our responsibility to keep our environment clean and free from contaminants. If we continue this rape of Nature we may no longer have an earth that is livable by humans. As they say this is already the 11th hour. Our time is running out. We must do some drastic moves to save the humans in this earth. Otherwise we will all be gone permanently.
